What is paperless reimbursement?

FSAFEDS offers paperless reimbursement (PDF) for your Health Care FSA (HCFSA) through a number of FEHB and FEDVIP plans. This means that when you or your provider file claims with your FEHB or FEDVIP plan, FSAFEDS will automatically reimburse your eligible out-of-pocket expenses based on the claim information it receives from your plan. There is little or no paperwork involved, and in many cases you will receive your reimbursement before your bill is due.

Important Paperless Reimbursement Details

You will be prompted to sign up for paperless reimbursement (PDF) during Open Season. Once you've enrolled in FSAFEDS, you can opt to participate in paperless reimbursement or cancel for the current benefit period until September 30 - the last day to make changes before the next Open Season.

If you opt to participate outside of Open Season, your paperless reimbursement is effective the next business day. You will need to manually submit claims for any services provided for you or your family members covered under your FEHB plan and/or FEDVIP plan that are processed prior to your paperless reimbursement effective date.

Paperless reimbursement does not change your relationship or obligations to your health care provider, speed up the time it takes your provider to submit a claim to your FEHB and/or FEDVIP plan, or the time it takes for your plan to process your claim. You are expected to make payment for your out-of-pocket expenses as requested by your provider.

Shared Account and Spouse Processing Update

Shared Accounts: FSAFEDS offers spouses the opportunity to link their accounts, so when one spouse's balance has been exhausted, paperless reimbursement claims are automatically forwarded and processed against the other spouse's account with a remaining balance. This option is effective January 1, 2017 if elected during Open Season.

Spouse Processing: This feature is important for those FSAFEDS participants who do not carry the medical, dental or vision coverage but are the accountholder for the FSA. Some federal employees set up their benefit enrollments so one spouse is the family's FEHB and/or FEDVIP policyholder and the other spouse is the FSAFEDS participant. Spouse processing enables the spouse enrolled in FSAFEDS to take advantage of paperless reimbursement by having the other spouse's FEHB and/or FEDVIP plan (s) forward any claims associated with their account.

If you would like to participate in this option, you may do so now. Simply go to www.FSAFEDS.com and log in to your online account, select Paperless Claims and follow the instructions.
