You may want to request a qualified reservist distribution (QRD) if you have a balance in your Health Care FSA (HCFSA) or Limited Expense Health Care FSA (LEX HCFSA) and think you might not be able to incur sufficient eligible expenses to deplete your account before your active duty commences.
Rather than forfeit those funds, you can have your balance refunded to you. The drawback is that the distribution will be taxable wages, and you give up your ability to submit eligible expenses for the remainder of the benefit period.
